During this past month I got to do something really neat. I was able to go to a different part of Malawi and build a new Orphan Rescue Unit. It was interesting because the people didn’t really speak Chichewa. Instead, they spoke Chiyao. Although, there were some people, even kids, that spoke Chichewa and even English. The kids that were able to speak Chichewa were a blessing to me because I was able to communicate really well with them. It was probably because they only knew the simple words the same way I do. We had two days where we didn’t work because one of the chief’s relatives. He didn’t want us to build the unit in the place where we were planning on building it. We even started building the foundation for the unit but we couldn’t finish it because eventually we had to move to a different area. We were all worried because we had already set up our tents and everything else and we were worried that we had done all that work in vain. We were also worried because we wanted this village to see the light of God and we could see that the village was living in darkness. We were blessed because we were able to move to a different spot that wasn’t far from our original spot. Now we have hope that a lost village can see the light of Jesus Christ.

Another thing that we had the privilege of doing is having a time of evangelism. Many people in the village were Muslim so it was an interesting experience. I was told that I needed to preach the gospel without offending anyone but that was something I didn’t know how to do. I knew how to preach the gospel but I didn’t know how to preach the gospel without offending people. The gospel is the gospel and Jesus is the star of the show. Without Jesus you can’t preach the gospel. So I just did what I knew how to do.

One interesting thing about Malawi is that even though the people may be Muslim they are always interested in hearing the gospel. Maybe it’s because I’m white and people in Malawi are always interested in hearing what a white person has to say. I started preaching the gospel simple and clear and while I was preaching the gospel someone, who was a Muslim, was angry and wanted us to leave. He said that this is a Muslim village and he didn’t want us here. So because of that we moved to a different spot and the people who were interested followed us. I finished preaching the gospel and then I gave an invitation, asking if anyone would like to receive Jesus as his or her Savior. There were some people who sort of raised their hands but it appeared that maybe they weren’t sure if they really wanted to receive Jesus as their savior. In the end about 10 people prayed to receive Jesus as their savior. I only pray that they really meant what they prayed and that they understood what I was asking. It’s possible that they did not understand because I was speaking English and someone was translating into Chichewa and the main language in the village was Chiyao. I just pray the God helped them to understand what I was saying. After they received Christ as their savior I told them the many ways in how they should live a godly life. After that, we moved to a different part of the village and I presented the gospel again. About 30 people prayed to receive Jesus as their savior. Even though we weren’t able to get any work done at the unit that day the Lord accomplished an even better work in the lives of these people.

When we moved to our new spot we worked hard and fast because we did delay in getting the unit built. The last couple of days were difficult because it rained throughout the night and all of our tents got wet. We were putting on the roof while it was pouring down rain. We were blessed because the last night some nice people offered to let us stay at their house. It was a nice dry sleep. To God be the glory for this blessed week that we had.
